Psychological Methods are concerened with the development and adaption of statistical procedures to measure psychological constructs, statistical and mathematical modeling of psychological processes, the design of evaluation studies, and the analysis and interpretation of empirical-psychological data.

The connection of methodological and substantive research questions, and cooperation with other national and international research groups are central for our department. Our key research interests are twofold: the development and adaption of new quantitative methods and theoretical concepts for the analysis of a) longitudinal data and b) (causal) treatment effects.

Analysis of (causal) effects

Treatment effects are often in focus of psychological research. Beside the average treatment effect, researchers are also interested in conditional effects, this is, effects on specific persons or groups of persons. Our key research interests in this field are:

  • Average and conditional effects
  • Effect analysis with structural equation models
  • Totale, direct and indirect effects
  • Mediation and moderation with latent variables

Longitudinal data analysis

The analysis of longitudinal data is important in many field of developmental, educational, and also clinical psychology. We develop statistical models which address and incorporate a multitude of challenges, for example, latent variables, complex data structure, small sample sizes. Our key research interests in this field are:

  • Structural equation modeling for longitudinal data analysis
  • Latent Growth Curve / Growth Component Models
  • State-trait Models
  • Modeling of latent changes
