Research expertise in the research landscape of vocational rehabilitation

Review articles regarding the research landscape of vocational rehabilitation - for example factors of reintegration or the process of evaluation - are subject of several research projects and university final assignments. However, the working group 'Rehabilitation und Arbeit' of the DGRW, founded in 2010, stated that vocational rehabilitation is insufficiently investigated and that an appropriate overview about the current state of research is still missing. The scientific colloquia from 2003 to 2010 and a survey of research in the area of rehabilitation (Koch, Lehmann & Morfeld, 2005) proved that there is an increase in the amount of scientific contributions. However the absolute number of scientific contributions is still modest in comparison to medical rehabilitation. A comprehensive research review in the area of vocational rehabilitation is still missing, as additionally mentioned by the working group 'Forschung' in RehaFutur (BMAS, 2012).

The aim of the research project of RWTH Aachen is the analysis and systematization of the current state of research in the area of vocational rehabilitation. With the aim to gather and structure the research landscape, both, literature and research databases, needs to be investigated. The overview of the current state of research may reveal the current investigation demand and shows areas that has not yet been sufficiently researched. This provides an action framework for researchers and the lead executing agencies, showing them which research subfields in the area of vocational rehabilitation are still insufficiently investigated.
